Q : Do u recommend any special stitch while attaching armholes? Or even simple straight stich do u recommend double stitching? As sleeves are more streses when dress is worn. I ask for stability of the stitches. TIA - Diya (4 years ago)
A :

We only use a straight stitch in woven fabrics even for attaching sleeves.  Yes, double stitch is recommended.

Q : So, if sleeve cure is more then we just have to reduce the ease on sleeve pattern only, rt? - Sarika (5 years ago)
A :

Yes.

Q : But anyways while drafting the sleeves, we take the arm round measurement and not atm hole. So why do measure body arm hole on the pattern and how do we use it while drafting the sleeve pattern?? - Sarika (5 years ago)
A :

Every person is unique and the proportions from armround and armhole, chest round etc differs from person to person.  Also the shoulder adjustments made may  change the armhole measurement.  So after drafting pattern it is important to measure the front and back curves to ensure you get your body armhole measurement plus ease given on chest. Similarly after drafting the sleeves pattern, you need to measure the front and back curves and see that it matches with the body pattern so that you do not get a difference when attaching sleeves to the body armhole.

If the sleeve curve is more, reduce the ease and redraw the curves and vice versa.

Q : Why do I get the Sleeves' arm hole extra then the body arm hole though it can be cut off. - Sarika (5 years ago)
A :

After drafting the body pattern, please measure the front and back armhole curves and it should match with your body armhole measurment plus ease given on chest. If it is more/less,  shift the chest line up/down to decrease/increase the curve. Then draft the sleeves and again measure the curves and make sure it matches with the body pattern. If it is more/less, reduce/increase the ease and redraw the curves.

Q : Will it make any difference if I start attaching the sleeve from centre to the edges rather than stitching from one edge to the other. - Archana (5 years ago)
A :

No, if you find that method easier you may do so.  The sleeve fabric may form some ripples as you match the edges and sew, keep the ripples to the edge and make sure it is plain and smooth where you stitch so that no pleats are formed.

Q : While attaching the sleeve, sometimes my centre point of sleeve and shoulder are not matched . How do I correct this ? - Archana (5 years ago)
A :

After drafting the pattern, kindly measure the front and back armhole curves of body pattern and ensure it matches with your measurement plus ease given on the chest. If less/more, shift the chest line down/up and redraw the curves. Similarly you would need to match the sleeves with the body pattern.
